Allison

2023 Recipient

Dog: Daisy

In June of 2016 Allison was diagnosed with DYRK1A syndrome. DYRK1A is characterized by intellectual disability including impaired speech development, autism spectrum disorder including anxious and/or stereotypic behavior problems, and microcephaly.

Most recently in July of 2022 Allison was diagnosed with epilepsy. Epilepsy is a central nervous system (neurological) disorder in which brain activity becomes abnormal, causing seizures or periods of unusual behavior, sensations and sometimes loss of awareness.

Karsyn

2024 Recipient

Dog: Nala

In February 2022, Karsyn was diagnosed with a rare condition called Urea Cycle Disorder also known as Ornithine Transcarbamylase (OTC). This condition means her body is missing a component that helps break down protein causing ammonia, a highly toxic substance, to build up in her bloodstream. High ammonia levels can result in brain damage or liver failure, and if not monitored properly could be fatal. Beyond protein intake there are many other factors that can cause stress to her disorder leading to the same result.

Julia

2025 Recipent

Dog: TBD

Seventeen years young, Julia carries a weight most of us can't fathom, yet she does so with a grace that leaves you breathless. Imagine facing autism, ADHD, intellectual disabilities, communication barriers, sensory overload, and the unpredictable terror of seizures. This is Julia's reality, yet she chooses to illuminate the world with her smile. Her love for music, dance, swimming, puzzles, and sports isn't just a hobby; it's a defiant celebration of life. Julia's curiosity is a beacon, her heart is an open book, and her smile? Well, her smile is a force of nature.

Julia suffers from autistic spectral disorder, ADHA, cognitive impairment/intellectual disability, communication impairment (Receptive/Expressive language disorder), sensory processing disorder (fine motor, visual perceptual, motor coordination and visual motor integration skills). She has Epilepsy and suffers from complex partial and grand mal seizures.

We are currently in the process of finding the right breed for Julia and then the training begins! We will keep all of you updated throughout this journey!
